01 December 2018
Hotel Saint-Petersburg
Educational and Counseling Center EdMed in association with the Surgical Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Pavlov First Saint-Petersburg State Medical University would like to invite you to attend the course by Prof. Tae-Geon KWON «Orthognathic surgery: eastern approach».
About the course:
Decision of surgical technique in orthognathic surgery is basically rely on the surgical treatment objectives which are the fundamental process in whole orthognathic treatment process. In Korean patients with jaw deformity, 90% of the patients are skeletal class III deformity and most of them accompany various degree of asymmetry or midface hypoplasia.
The recent trend of Korean orthognathic surgery would be the:
- Surgery-first approach
- 3D planning for the patients
- Accuracy and complication management
- Posterior displacement of the jaws. Reduction of the facial skeleton (V-line, narrowing of cheekbones, corners of the jaw, chin)
The surgery-first orthognathic approach (SFA) without or minimal presurgical orthodontic treatment has been introduced. At the same time, recent introduction and wide spread application of 3D computerized planning changed a lot of aspects in preparation for orthognathic surgery. Especially in treating the facial asymmetry patients, computerized 3D surgical simulation improved not only the accuracy of the surgery but also the esthetic outcomes. These computerized systems improved whole system of the surgical planning, surgery itself and evaluation process. The proper application of adequate concept for orthognathic surgery would be the essential for successful results
